The project

Terms of use

Free to use and free to pass on, not open source, no account and no data collected — the whole position in one page.

Using it

ScriptureCaster is free to download and free to use, for any church, with no limit on screens, translations or congregation size, and with no account. Pass it on to another church freely — please do, exactly as it was downloaded.

Not open source

The program may not be modified, decompiled, reverse engineered, or republished under another name.

That is deliberate rather than protective, and there are two reasons. A project that forks in ten directions stops being something a volunteer can be handed on a Sunday morning. And where a publisher has licensed their translation for use in this software, keeping the program closed is part of how their text is kept safe — it is the difference between a licence being possible and not.

The Scripture is not ours

The software displays Scripture; it does not own any of it. Every translation carries its own copyright and its own terms, and those belong to the publisher, not to this project. What is included, what can be added, and on whose terms is set out in credits.

No warranty

It is given as it is, with no guarantee that it is fit for any particular purpose. It is written carefully and tested before every release, and it is still software running on a computer you do not control. Before a service that matters, check it on the machine that will be used: ScriptureCaster.exe --selftest answers whether the screens, fonts and database are as expected on that PC.

What it collects

Nothing. There is no account, no telemetry, and no analytics. The program talks to the internet in exactly two situations: when you ask it to download a Bible translation, and when it checks whether a newer version exists — a check you can switch off in Settings → Updates. Your settings and your Bible library stay in the program's folder, on your machine.

If it is missing something

Ask. Almost everything in the software got built because a church said it needed it. Get in touch.
